10:33 am - New Dickens Comm

x_los and I have started a new comm for Dickens fans: dickenskink. We have separate fic promp and discussion threads for each Dickens novel. It's an anon and kink meme, where everything from your softest gen to your kinkiest kink is equally welcome. The company will likely be small, it is true, but highly select! Only the best people! ...who are still on lj. ...and interested in a Dickens kinkmeme.

10:47 am - Gatsby Fic 7 / 7: Breathing Dreams

Title: Breathing Dreams
Fandom: The Great Gatsby (book & film)
Pairing/Characters: Nick/Jay, Pam/Sylvie, Daisy/Tom, Magda (The Finn)
Rating: PG-13 / R
Notes: Part 7 / 7; follows The Pursued and the Pursuing, Naming Things, In the Meantime, In Between Time, Miraculous Escapes, The Busy and the Tired, and In Love and War. This is set in 1941, just a few years after ILaW's final section.
Summary: As Pam learns the rest of the story, Nick ponders the nature of endings.

7:03 pm - More Gatsby: The Busy and the Tired (Nick/Jay, NC-17)

Title: The Busy and the Tired
Fandom: The Great Gatsby (book & film)
Pairing/Characters: Nick/Jay, Daisy Buchanan, Pam Buchanan
Rating: NC-17, which is news to me.
Notes: This follows The Pursued and the Pursuing, Naming Things, In the Meantime, In Between Time, and Miraculous Escapes. I never expect sequences like this one, initially intended as a one-shots, to carry on as long as they do, but this one wants taking to an extent that's far too interesting not to chase. And so it goes.
Summary: It's not how many ghosts you have, but how you manage them.

8:41 pm - More Gatsby Fic: Naming Things (Nick/Jay, NC-17)

Title: Naming Things
Fandom: The Great Gatsby (both novel and film)
Pairing: Nick Carraway/Jay Gatsby
Rating: NC-17, not terribly evasive this time, either.
Notes: Follow-up/inset moments for The Pursued and the Pursuing. The first scene is the morning after the first encounter, and the subsequent scenes are clearly labeled as to how they correspond to things referenced in the narrative of the first story. Enough people asked for a more detailed unfolding of events; I'm happy to oblige.
Summary: A progression of four places, four acts, and four conversations.

7:44 pm - Gatsby Fic: The Pursued and the Pursuing (Nick/Gatsby, R)

Title: The Pursued and the Pursuing
Fandom: The Great Gatsby (the novel, but effectively the film, too)
Pairing & Characters: Nick Carraway/Jay Gatsby, Others
Rating: Very definitely R, perhaps evasively NC-17.
Warning: Period racial and sexual slurs, alas.
Notes: In spite of the fact that not a single character in it is fully admirable, I've loved this novel for a long, long time, and I suppose the film coming out finally gave me a good excuse to do something more productive than marvel at Fitzgerald's prose on rereading. You all know I've got a thing for meddling with endings, especially sad ones (to varying degrees of success, I'm certain), and this particular tragic ending has been waiting since my sophomore year of high school. That's a long time for a pair of characters to knock around in my head and in my heart; whether they'll speak as clearly on the page for me as they do in those places is, of course, another matter.
Summary: The past is both behind us and ahead of us, patiently looming

2:56 am - FIC: Wax | Broken | Torture (Turn-of-the-Century Toughs; original gen/slash)

These stories are written in response to the 50 Darkfics challenge, which offers one hundred one-word prompts on dark themes, to inspire authors to write stories on those topics. The darkfic written for this challenge ranges from lightly humorous to suspensefully dramatic. All of the stories here are set in the Midcoast nations of the Turn-of-the-Century Toughs universe. Turn-of-the-Century Toughs is my cycle of historical fantasy series about disreputable men on the margins of society, and the men and women who love them. The novels are set in an imaginary version of Maryland and other Mid-Atlantic states between the 1880s and the 1910s. One of the series in the cycle, Waterman, combines elements of the 1910s with retrofuturistic imagery from the 1960s.

Author: Dusk Peterson.
Where to find me: Website, Dreamwidth blog, InsaneJournal mirror blog, LiveJournal mirror blog, duskpetersonbooks (e-mail list with announcements of my fiction and vids).
Fandom: My original gen/slash Turn-of-the-Century Toughs 'verse. You don't need to have read any of the previous stories to understand these.
Word count: 1200 | 80 | 2200.
Ratings: PG-13 | G | PG-13.
Prompt table and blurbs | Series warnings.

#92: Wax (The Eternal Dungeon). The Record-keeper of the Eternal Dungeon goes in search of a very special supply.

#34: Broken (The Eternal Dungeon AU). Layle Smith is not always the ideal man for the job.

#10: Torture (The Eternal Dungeon/Life Prison crossover AU). The High Seeker of the Eternal Dungeon visits a foreign prison.

Title: Whisky in the Snow
Author: alley_skywalker
Fandom: War and Peace
Paring: Theodore Dolokhov/Anatole Kuragin
Word Count: 909
: PG
Warnings: (heavily implied) slash, allusions to (canon) character death
Summary: Truth is, everyone will hurt you. You've just got to find the ones worth hurting for...
Notes: The summary is a somewhat paraphrased quote from the slash_las  prompt that the fic was written for. It was quite well received :)

1:40 pm - The Senses

Title: The Senses
Rating: R
Word Count: 3370
Fandoms: '09 Sherlock Holmes movie and H.P. Lovecraft
Warnings: Lovecraftian horror, character death
Summary: Watson returns to Baker street to find Holmes has uncovered something terrible.
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters nor do I have any claim to Lovecraft's works.
Author's Note: Based on Lovecraft's story From Beyond. The writing, other than a few choice phrases taken from the original piece, is my own.

Horrific beyond conception was the change which had overcome the shadow of my formerly closest friend, Sherlock Holmes.

1:48 am - Pride & Prejudice Fic: A Faithful Narrative [Darcy, Wickham, post-slash]

Title: A Faithful Narrative
Characters/Pairing: Darcy/Wickham
Author: kalichan
Contains: past-Slash, angst
Rating: 15+
Summary: The arrangements, arranged; the settlements, settled; and Darcy takes his leave of Wickham the night before his wedding to Lydia
Fandom: Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice
Wordcount: ~700 words
Author's Note: Dissertation!panic-induced insomnia is a terrible thing. This came to me, almost entirely formed in some kind of a fugue state last night, and now I can’t unsee it. This chapter on Austen sequels better be freaking worth it, is all I’m saying. The title is taken from a line in Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth: “This, madam, is a faithful narrative of every event in which we have been concerned together; and if you do not absolutely reject it as false, you will, I hope, acquit me henceforth of cruelty towards Mr. Wickham.” Also, there’s a line in here that I use myself quite often, but upon googling, have discovered to be cribbed from Shakespeare In Love! Woe! Please to consider it an homage, rather than outright theft.

Upon the point of quitting Wickham’s lodging, Darcy paused on the threshold one final time. Without turning round to look at him, he said, low, “Did you ever care for me, George?”

4:08 am - FIC: Men and Lads (Life Prison; original fiction) - 2010 holiday gift story

Title: Men and Lads.
Author: Dusk Peterson.
Where to find me: Website, Dreamwidth blog, InsaneJournal mirror blog, LiveJournal mirror blog, duskpetersonbooks (e-mail list with announcements of my fiction).
Series: Life Prison, a historical fantasy series about male desire and determination in Victorian prisons. You don't need to have read the other stories in the series to understand this one, but this story does contain major spoilers for the first story in the series.
Categories: Original fiction. Male/male platonic feelings and male/male attraction. Friendship fiction, mentor fiction, prisoner fiction, race/ethnicity themes, spirituality themes. Plus, trains and tramps. Time: 1892.
Note: At my blog, I've posted an entry with links to maps, period illustrations, and notes on my research of this story. None of these are necessary to understand the story.
Rating: PG-13.
Warnings: Boilerplate warning for all my stories. Warnings for this series.
Length: 16,000 words.
Feedback: Yes, please.
Story summary: Two guards. Two prisoners. A multitude of problems.

He knew what his prisoner's expression would be before he saw it: a mixture of apprehension, wary hope, and the expression he had come to fear most of all – determination.

10:03 pm - Jane Eyre fanfic: Silk to Rein a Vulcan

Title & link: Silk to Rein a Vulcan
Author: eve_n_furter
Fandom: Jane Eyre
Pairing: Mrs. Rochester/Mr. Rochester
Length: Ca 950 words
Spoilers: Absolutely. This happens somewhere in the time-line of the very last chapter.
Warnings: NC-17. Manipulation, het sex, language.
AN: Original prompt over at litkink: "Jane Eyre - Jane/Edward, power play/exchange, bringing out the beasts in each other!" - My take here is fairly mild, dear prompter, but I hope you at least get a glimpse of the fearless creature inside Jane as she tackles her melancholic Vulcan Edward, and that you aren't too disappointed. I felt I couldn't force them too hard, the poor Victorians. ;P

Hi! The mod gave me the go-ahead, so, I'm going ahead.

I've started a classic literature kink meme for all your classic literature kink meme purposes.

The (hopefully just first of many!) post is here and I encourage everyone to go leave prompts and, most importantly, fill them!

(I'm considering 'classic' to be 'anything before the 40s', in the interests of attracting a wide number of readers.)

Thank you! ♥

6:38 pm - Cracky Skypechat Holmes/Watson fic, installment number 1/?

New here! I've been attempting to cowrite a Holmes/Watson story with a couple of friends, but until today I'm the one who has contributed anything. For months. Finally, while catching up with one of my "cowriters," who is overseas at the moment, I got her to round robin a bit of fic with me on Skype's chat option. Warning: It is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

TITLE: We shall call it "Sherlock Holmes and the Eventual Tentacles"
AUTHORS: me (polly oliver) and my friend, who wishes to be known as "nerdfancier"
RATING: mm, PG-13, since the descriptions are by way of being implicit
SUMMARY: Traditional Doyleian opener, Holmes and Watson hanging round the flat on Baker, discussing this and that, some of which ends up having some kind of bearing on the case (which hasn't been got round to quite yet)
WARNINGS: oral sex, silliness, self-conscious narration in bits, references to other fandoms including Star Wars and P.G. Wodehouse (and eventually House M.D. if I have my way), sudden changes in diction, annoying-to-read chat format
DISCLAIMER: I am so, so sorry, ACD. Words cannot express.

Tinkerty tonk!Collapse )
